EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)
EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique has been developed by Gary Craig in the early 1990’s . It stems from Dr Roger Callahan Thought Field Therapy (TFT) but with a simpler standard algorithm which can be easily learn by everyone and is the same regardless of what you are using it for. Both Tapping techniques are based on the energy meridian system just like acupuncture, acupressure and many other Eastern Healing Arts but without the invasive use of needles.
Traditional Chinese Medicine has been affirming for thousand of years there is an invisible flow of subtle energy – Qi -running throughout the body along pathways or channels called meridians. When the energy flows correctly we experience our natural state of health and wellbeing. When the flows get disrupted or stagnant we experience emotional discomfort, physical pain or illness or in other words a state of dis-ease.
As negative experiences and trauma are stored in our energy field or matrix as an energy block or imbalance, after stimulating the body’s energy meridian points by focussing on specific issue and tapping lightly at the same time on a sequence of points with our fingertips while voicing our problems and using positive affirmation, we gradually clear away these energy blockages and the mental, physical and emotional issues these blocks created start to disappear. This process is called The EFT Basic Recipe and is described in more details in my free ebook available here on this site. It is also the basis of more advances technique such as the Movie Techniques and Matrix Reimprinting.
EFT also known as Meridian Tapping often works when nothing else will and has been used successfully on a wide range of emotional as well as physical conditions among but not limited to:
- Stress and Anxiety
- Weight Management and Body Image
- Low Self-Esteem
- Depressive Feelings
- Grief and Loss
- Anger Management
- Relationship issues
- Children and Teens Behaviour
- Animals Behaviour and Wellbeing
- Performance Management
- Chronique Fatigue
- Pain Management
- Addictions and Cravings
- Severe Trauma (PTSD)
- Sexual Abuse
There are also numerous cases were this energy psychology technique has been helpful with serious diseases and has produced remarkable clinical results, it must still be considered to be in the experimental stage and thus practitioners and the public must take complete responsibility for their use of it. Under NO circumstances must you cease taking prescribed medication without your medical advisors approval
EFT and Cortisol (the stress hormone)
A recent study published in October 2012 the prestigious Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease, found that Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) lowered the major stress hormone cortisol significantly more than the two other interventions tested: rest and talk therapy.
The results showed that cortisol levels in the rest and therapy groups decreased by an average of 14%, while the EFT group decreased by 24%. The reduction in cortisol levels also significantly corresponded to a decline in anxiety, depression, and other psychological symptoms as measured by a standard psychological assessment tool. The Dartmouth Undergraduate Journal of Science published an interesting article explaining the physiology of stress and its disastrous consequences on our health :
“During periods of increased stress, “the immune cells are being bathed in molecules which are essentially telling them to stop fighting,” according to Dr. Esther Sternberg. These molecules, namely cortisol, suppress the immune system and inflammatory pathways, rendering the body more susceptible to disease.
High levels of stress, even over relatively short periods and in vastly different contexts, tend to produce similar results: prolonged healing times, reduction in ability to cope with vaccinations, and heightened vulnerability to viral infection. The long-term, constant cortisol exposure associated with chronic stress produces further symptoms, including impaired cognition, decreased thyroid function, and accumulation of abdominal fat, which itself has implications for cardiovascular health “
The Pituitary Gland signals the Adrenal Cortex to releases cortisol only at time of physical danger, to help our body maximise its resources to fight or flee from that threat. The level of cortisol and other adrenal hormones such as adrenaline are supposed to subside when the danger is gone but unfortunately in today stressful world many people are triggered so frequently their body is constantly flooded by these stress hormones. Unfortunately our body also respond to a lack of sleep, large intake of caffeine or alcohol by producing cortisol… As this hormone also helps regulate blood pressure, blood sugar, and insulin levels, so if you were thinking of alleviating your stress by over eating or letting your hair down and have a little bit more than a few drinks you will just be adding to the problem rather than solving it!
EFT is a very powerful tool to help clear away the fears and manage your stress level. It can also support you and help you feeling more confident about taking the decisions which can help you having a better life style and be kinder to your self and your body and start living the life you want…
